AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SURVEYS

What are Aerial Surveys?

Aerial Surveys consists of capturing larger areas from the sky to investigate entire landscapes, towns and remote areas in a cost-effective, quick and accurate way.

Aerial surveying has come a long way since the days of a pilot hanging out of a plane with a camera! A number of options are now available to meet any requirements and budgets. Modern technologies such as digital cameras and laser scans have radically increased the quality of the outcome whilst reducing their cost, to make them indispensable for any multi-disciplinary project.

Murphy Surveys were the first to introduce this survey to the UK and Irish markets through a close partnership with Hansa Luftbild GMBH, world leader in aerial surveying with a valuable team of experienced operators, engineers and planners.

Applications

Aerial surveys include a number of applications, such as:

- Airborne Data Capture – aerial photography, laser scanning and thermal scanning;
- Development of aerial film for all standard processes;
- Scanning of analogue aerial photos;
- Geo-referencing of photo data (through an inertial
- navigation system or aerial triangulation);
- Ortho-photo rectification and image mosaics;
- Production of Digital Terrain Models;
- Restitution in 2D, 3D, digital or analogue data.

Benefits

* Different types of survey can be carried out at once
* Increased cost-effectiveness for both small and larger areas
* Data can be provided in many formats, including AutoCAD, Genio, and X,Y,Z
* Inaccessible areas can be surveyed without requiring access
* Increased data accuracy
* Laser scans allow capturing accurate data for areas that are under vegetation or tree cover
* Increased speed of survey data capture
