3D Laser Scan of Medieval Town Wall

3D Laser Scan of Medieval Town Wall

About This Project

Youghal Town Wall is a medieval wall in Youghal, Co. Cork, dating back to the 13th century. It had experienced considerable damage due to adverse weather conditions over the last few winters. This prompted Youghal Town Council to appoint Conservation Engineers and Architects – David Kelly Partnership, to assess the integrity of the wall in order to minimise damage to the historic structure.

Solution

Utilising the latest in 3D Laser Scanning technology, Murphy Surveys delivered a complete 3D photo-realistic model of the Town Wall, comprised of several billion individual points.

From this model, Murphy Surveys extracted highly detailed drawings of the structure to aid the engineers in their conservation work. This model will provide a template for exact stone-by-stone re-construction of this regionally important monument, should further damage occur in the future.
