Client Requirements:

The objective of the geophysical survey was to locate and map all underground services and anomalies within this area. Also the extent of the under-ground railway tunnel and the size and location of the sewers were to be established. Murphy Surveys were required to carry out the following:

-	Geophysical survey
-	Utility survey
-	Topographical survey

Murphy Surveys Solution

A range of geophysical techniques was carried out to best locate utilities, buried anomalies and the underground tunnel, as follows:

-	A desktop study was initially carried out to obtain as full a picture as possible of all existing utilities. Contact was made with all relevant utility companies as well as the local authorities, London Underground etc.
-	A full topographic survey was carried out before the utility survey commenced. A total of 33 covers were lifted and recorded. Each Manhole and Inspection Cover was individually numbered and inspected. A record of cover size, cover and invert levels, chamber dimensions, type of service, material, diameter, flow direction, top of pipe level, number of ducts etc is recorded. Photographs were also taken of each chamber
-	Hydraulic Manhole Lifters and appropriate signing and guarding were used
-	A range of radio frequency techniques were used to trace utilities from each Manhole including direct induction, cable clamping, sondes and passive radio frequency surveys
