As part of this exciting new chapter we are looking for an extraordinary, tenacious and ambitious Commercial Manager to join our team and help shape the path of success.

The Commercial Manager will work directly with the Managing Director and will acts as a pivotal link between the sales and operations functions. With a good understanding of both sales and operations, this role aims to support the overall growth, efficiency and profitability of the business. A strong focus will be on the financial performance and management as well as on liaising with the support services. Working with the Sales and Operations Manager, this role will be instrumental in contributing to our success story and long-term company strategy.

Building Information Modelling (BIM), Geodetic & Geotechnical Monitoring Solutions, Digital Construction, 3D Laser Scanning, Subsurface Mapping including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Measured Building Surveys, Area Measurement, Topographic Surveys, Specialist Engineering Services and UAV/Drone Surveys.

Core Requirements and Responsibilities


Commercial Strategy and Management

  • Developing Murphy Surveys commercial objectives and strategy, in collaboration with the Leadership team, having regard to the Company’s responsibilities to its shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers and other stakeholders
  • Together with the HR Manager, develop the talent and career development including succession plans for high potentials


Commercial Development

  • Together with the Sales Manager, providing coherent leadership of the sales activities and staff and managing a pipeline of commercial development opportunities in line with revenue targets
  • Together with the Operations Manager, providing coherent leadership of the operations of the company, including, representing the Company to customers and suppliers


Business Intelligence

  • Acquire, analyse and keep up-to-date on relevant and timely information about external developments, market trends and customers to provide an accurate market backdrop to inform business decisions


Strategic Management & Leadership

  • Responsible for the development of strategic growth plans in collaboration with the Directors
  • Responsible for the management of a high performing commercial team to deliver the defined business goals & objectives
  • Coach, mentor and support management in the development of commercial competencies to drive performance and create commercial awareness


Key Requirements

  • MBA qualification or equivalent, or currently in process of acquiring qualification
  • Minimum 5 years managing teams in a construction/engineering industry (or similar)
  • Experience of managing commercial relationships with stakeholder/employees and clients
  • Experience of managing a team of high calibre individuals
  • Ability to identify opportunities to expand the business, including through partnerships, mergers and new markets
  • Track record of procuring, managing and maintaining financial control
  • A proven understanding of procurement and administrating of project contracts such as NEC3/4 and similar standardised contracts
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team in a business to business environment
  • Must be numerate with strong negotiation skills
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic & fast-paced environment with associated risk
  • Must be flexible and adaptable and be able for occasional travel as required by the position
  • Creative, strategic and execution-oriented leader. Someone with the ability to lead, organise and motivate internal teams as well as interact with both internal and partner executives with ease
  • Data-driven decision maker, able to synthesize information and turn it into successful strategy
  • Ability to cultivate strong relationships, to embrace a dynamic environment and grow and adapt with the business
  • Demonstrate a high level of flexibility and be comfortable with managing all aspects of the sales and operations processes. The successful person will be very conscious and aware of winning the right quality of business
  • Highly credible presence and engagement style; comfortable presenting to large and small groups
  • Sharp negotiation skills and ability to structure business agreements
  • Commercially very astute, technically intelligent with the ability to translate the product/service capabilities into competitive differentiators
