Celebrating International Women’s Day
Today we’re celebrating International Women’s Day and the achievements of women in our industry. We’re proud to buck the industry trend with over 21% of our team who are female, but we do love all of the individuals that make up our team equally, and we believe in equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
According to a recent Construction Industry Federation (CIF) report, the construction sector in Ireland continues to be male dominated, with the average percentage of men working for CIG member companies estimated at 89% compared to 11% of women. In the UK, there are 2.3 million jobs in the construction industry and only 296,000 were women, the split is 87-13 according to the Office for National Statistics there.
Sarah Sherlock MRICS, MSCSI, MMII, Legal Mapping Surveyor, Murphy Surveys Ireland comments:
We have some amazing females here at Murphy Surveys and right across all of our offices in Europe, surveyors, processors to BIM technicians, project managers and no doubt some will be the future leaders of our industry. It is fantastic to celebrate International Women’s Day with such a fantastic group of women and by doing so we are raising awareness and helping build equality in our industry – there is a real sense of comradery amongst us all. Personally, I love the flexibility that comes with surveying. One day I am in the office and the next I onsite or meeting with clients. Here at Murphy Surveys there is a relentless pursuit of innovation and development, so it too ensures that every day is different and exciting!
As part of International Women’s Day our HR Manager Ciara Finnegan will be attending the third CIF International Women’s Day Conference in the Morrison Hotel, Dublin. This year over 200 delegates are expected to attend the event which celebrates the achievements of women in the construction industry and provides a forum to discuss issues facing women in construction.
